Archery
Experience:
Richard has been an avid
bowhunter for 16 years. He has
harvested many whitetail deer, and one 450 pound black bear.
Richard started shooting 3-D archery in 1987 to improve his bowhunting skills.
Hunting is something for Richard to do in the fall when all of the
Sportsmen’s Clubs shut down their archery programs to go hunting.
He would rather shoot target or 3D archery than hunt, (at least until
October rolls around). Richard shoots an average of 61 3D shoots a year,
sometimes competing with his wife and 2 grown children.
Richard teachs a youth archery class for Monroe County Adult Education Program
each fall. This consists of 8 weeks
of 2 hours classes for kids from 7 to 15 years of age. He stresses safety,
ethics, and overall knowledge of archery as well as the basic fundamentals of
good form. The last class is held at a local private 3D course where the kids
are allowed to participate in an actual 3D shoot.
Richard believes that Archery is
a sport (Discipline) that is mostly learned through family, or friends.
He feels that if he can teach
young archers some good form and ethics, he will have improved the future of the
sport.
