Community Signs Print E-mail
Signs

The Caney Valley Historical Society and Museum is pleased to be the keeper of the "signs".  You will notice signs around town that mark the sites of historic importance to our community.

In 2001 the first two signs were prepared and are located by the Little White Schoolhouse and the brick sidewalk just west of the school.  Over the next few years we placed signs by the cannon in the memorial park just south of the cemetery, by the high school stadium, which was built in 1938-39 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and our newest sign, is located in the Wark Park named after George Wark, General WWI.

It is our desire and goal to recognize and honor historical places, events and people in Caney.  If you have suggestions, or would like to contribute to this fund, please contact the Caney Valley Historical Society and Museum.  All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deuductible.

Sidewalk Brick Program Print E-mail
Sidewalk Bricks
The Caney Valley Historical Society assumed the chairmanship of the Caney personalized brick project in 1995 from the Caney Chamber of Commerce. At that time seven sections containing personalized bricks were in place directly in front of the Little White Schoolhouse.

New brick orders are placed in the new sidewalk west of the building However, you may make a request to have a brick placed next to an existing brick.

This is a wonderful project allowing individuals an opportunity to become a permanent part of our community history.  Names are sandblasted into vintage bricks taken from Caney sidewalks and then highlighted with black dye to make the letters easy to read.  The result is a high quality product that will stand the test of time.

The cost of each brick is $25.00 for two lines or $30.00 for 3 lines.  Please request a brick form via email or telephone.

Honor Plaque Program Print E-mail
Honor Plaques

Caney Valley Historical Society and Museum is honored to recognize and touch the lives of those that have touched so many others.  It is for this reason that we have the Honor Plaque Program.  Our teachers, staff, administrators, custodians and others have given and continue to give of their time, their ability and their love for the education and well-being of our children. So we have created the honors gallery exhibit in our historic Little White Schoolhouse.

This program was started in 1995 and our first recipient was Evald Nordstrom who came to Caney in 1946.  He was the music director for 9 and 1/2 years.  He left Caney for a while to teach in Bartlesville, but returned to Caney for four more years in 1975-1979.

This is a sponsorship program and we could not do it without your contribution.  Once an honoree has been selected to be the recipient of an honors plaque - sponsors are needed to pay the cost of the plaque ($100.00).  We will also need a photograph, either black & white or color.  The photo can be one taken at any age and it can be of any size.  Biographical information is needed for the scrapbook.  We have a 2 page form that may be obtained by phone or email.  The photo and tribute will be placed on the plaque and in our scrapbook.

The society appreciates your participation in the honors plaque program.  Not only are the plaques a fine tribute to those who have contributed so much to Caney and other school systems, but the program also helps provide funds for the society to use in maintaining its museum facilities.
