The Board of Directors at Camp Wood

Board members sometimes educate each other about the trail.  Virginia Lefferd is showing Olivia Huddleston some of the unique vegetation at Camp Wood while they take a break from trail work.

[Profiling the Work of the board of directors and the membership of KTC]

Our November, 1999 board meeting at Camp Wood [located west of Emporia] included a workday on Saturday afternoon. At Camp Wood there was a section of trail that was no longer in use because it was so over grown that it was even difficult to find let alone use. Upon arrival at the camp board members who were able to make the trip on Saturday geared up with work clothes and hand tools normally used for clearing trails. They soon had this particular stretch of trail cleared and ready to use once again. The camp manager then took them to another trail that also needed attention. It was a tiring afternoon of trail work but the board took personal satisfaction in the contributions that they had made to improve some of the trails at the camp for the benefit of future guests. The board meeting Sunday morning lasted  three hours with an agenda that covered a wide variety of topics related to the Council and the trails under their supervision.  Sunday afternoon  board member, Rocky Shire, accompanied one of the camp directors to inspect a large area of the camp where a hiking, running and biking trail is being considered. He made several recommendations related to the layout and construction of the trail.

Board officers John Harstine and Roger Bryson are hard at work  clearing rocks off the trail at Camp Wood.

KTC president, Harriett Barber seems to be enjoying the work.

Board member Olivia Huddleston obviously has had lots of experience doing trail work with the loppers.
