The Fall River State Park is located at the Fall River Lake, which is fed by the Fall River.  It is approximately 70 miles east of Wichita, just off Highway 400.   This is a sandstone and oak tree area, known by the natives as the Timbered Hills.  In the spring one will find scurfpea, lead plant, purple cone flower, wild roses and catclaw sensitive briar.  Flowers abound all summer.  Many birds, coyotes and bobcats live in this area. Opossums, raccoons, skunks and snakes may also be found.

The Quarry Bay Trails are located at the northeast end of the dam. There are two trails in the Fredonia Bay area.  Both places have a combined length of 6 1/2 miles of  trails that may be used for hiking, walking and biking.  No horses please.

In January 2007, the KTC began a new trail project which will add about 30 miles of trails to the area.  Phase 1 of this project, which is currently under way, will connect the Bluestem Trail to the Whitehall Campground on the north side of the lake. Phase 2 will add a trail loop in the Badger Creek area on the north side of the lake. Phase 3 will add a trail loop in the Casner Creek area on the southwest side of the lake. Phase 4 will connect the new Casner Creek trails to the State Park’s trails near the east end of the dam.  Trail building weekends are currently scheduled for the third weekend of each month.

For information concerning the park, call (620) 637-2213.
