We moved to Caney KS July 3 1971. We established a business in appliance repair in our home, as i was unable to work full time do to a disability. About 1977 they decided to put in zoning. We paid the city clerk the zoning fee for business. In 1995 the city decided they wanted to go "big city" and didn't like the looks of work areas. They couldn't find the information about my being zoned commercial . they allowed me to be grand fathered in for a while, until they hired a new administrator, Don Whitman, then they started in harassing me again. I made the mistake of telling him they couldn't close my business they started giving me citations. I had to close my business and haul thousands of dollars in salvage to the dump instead of recycling it. I went on SS and disability to survive. The city is passing ordinances that are unconstitutional and illegal. They passed one that says they can come on your property any time they want for any reason. ord 17 sec 8-406 They have passed one setting new housing standards, if your house doesn't`t fit in they will condemn it and bulldoze it. We have lived here for about 37 years and finally got it paid off. now they want to condemn it and kick us out.
