Great Joy!
But the angel said to
them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that
will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior
has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11
Can
you imagine the joy the angel felt as he proclaimed the good
news to the shepherds on that first Christmas night? The angel
had been waiting since his creation for this special purpose.
He had witnessed the tragic day when Adam and Eve were cast from
the garden, but he had also heard the promise of a savior for
mankind. (Genesis 3:15) All creation knew that God had made a
promise and that He would bring it to fulfillment. What
joyful sounds of praise must have been ringing through the
heavens when God said, “The time has come”. I imagine it
looked a little bit like the joy we will all one day experience
when we join the saints at the throne of God!
This miracle of God becoming flesh is so majestic and holds such
wonder that it must be celebrated over and over with fervor
equal to the time we first heard the amazing story of God’s
love. Just as a mother prepares for the
arrival of a new baby, working to make everything perfect, we
prepare during the four weeks of Advent to receive the newborn
savior of the world. Midweek Advent worship services
provide us with the opportunity to take time out of our hectic
and often worldly driven lives to focus on the arrival of the
King of Kings.
At Zion Lutheran School the hymns of praise to our infant king
already reverberate through the halls and once again the
teachers watch with joy the faces of our students as they hear
the Christmas story, some of them for the first time. We
look forward to being Ablaze to Share God’s Love in the month of
December as we focus on sharing God’s Love with our church
family.
On behalf of the school students and staff, may God bless you
this Christmas season with joy as you experience again the gift
of His Son in the Babe of Bethlehem.
