KENTIGERN
Saint Mungo of Scotland
Failte!
The Mungo Project continues to develop, with many more musical collaborators, further steps toward recording, and plans for a debut production on Saturday, August 17, at St. John's Church in Lawrence. Showtime is 7:30 PM. There will be artwork and other items related to the production on exhibit downstairs during intermission
Saint Kentigern i is considered Scottish, but actually he was the bishop of Cumbria, a region which was at the time between England and Scotland. He is as much a part of the Lakes District, and of Wales, as he is of Glasgow, the city of his patronage. Indeed, he part of anyone's life who honours his spirit of unassailable love, reasonable thought, and fearless introspection.
The Mungo project has led to the creation of Saint Kentigern's homepage as a separate entity. Over time, I hope to add more general information about holy Kentigern, as well as anecdotes, artwork, and related links. If you are inspired to contribute to the project and/or this website in any way, I would welcome your correspondance.
Yours Aye,
Maria

Let Glasgow Flourish
Prologue: To his most reverend lord and dearest father Jocelinus, (from his servant of the same name) ..... I have wandered through the streets and lanes of the city, according to thy command, seeking the recorded life of Saint Kentigern, whom thy soul loveth... if ought shall be produced worthy of being read, be it ascribed to thy eminency.....

Fish and tree and bell and bird
Let Glasgow flourish by thy word
Bird and tree and bell and fish
Let Glasgow flourish
Let Glasgow flourish
Song of Saint Servanus, Tree and Bird / The Holy Youth
Saint Servanus, supporting his aged limbs with a staff, followed in pursuit, beckoning and lamenting,"Alas, my dearest son! Light of mine eyes! Staff of my old age! Wherefore dost thou leave me? Call to mind the days that are past and remember the years gone by, how I took thee up, and nourished thee, taught thee and trained thee…do not despise or neglect me, but return, that in no long time thou mayest close mine eyes" Kentigern, moved with these words, melting into tears replied"Thou seest, my Father, that what is done is according to Divine will…..return thee to thine own people, that in thine own presence they may be trained and guided…the Rewarder of all reward thee……for thy faith there is laid up for thee a crown of rightousness in Heaven……….but I, destined to the work of the ministry, will go forth to that which He has sent me, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me by His grace"……

Oh holy son,
Most beloved one
God sent ye here to show his loving hand
But now ye are far
I ken no waur ye are
The lord sent ye far through this land
In the race that ye run
It's God' will be done
Still I hear yer footstep at my door
It's yer fate to fulfill
Ye were born tae God's will
Oh my heart is with thee evermore
Follow the Cart / Saint Fergus
Next day Kentigern yoked two untamed bulls to a new wain, in which he placed the body, whence the spirit had departed and having prayed in the name of the Lord, he enjoined upon the beasts to carry their burden to the place which the Lord had provided for it…..and they came by a straight road, along where there was no path, as far as Cathures, which is now called Glasgu...

Song of Queen Langouoreth:
Lament of the Unfaithful Wife
The king in fury, calling her an adulteress, broke into curses saying," God do to me, and more also, if I judge thee not according to the law of adulterers, and condemn thee to a most disgraceful death…."
He ordered her to be imprisoned…cast into a dungeon, she now contemplated death as imminent; but not the less did her guilty conscience torment her…O weighty and intolerable punishment, the damning testimony of a guilty conscience! …with contrite and lowly heart, and with tearful prayer she besought God His great mercy…by the inspiration of the Lord, sending a most faithful messenger to Kentigern, told him her whole misfortune, and from him urgently requested help.

Sorry am I, sorry am I
Heartily sorry am I
I have sinned against God
Brought shame upon men
And heartily sorry am I
Wretched am I, wretched am I
Woefully wretched am I
I was blind with desire
I was full of my pride
Now woefully wretched am I
Oh God, have I lost
Your mercy and love
And am I all alone?
Sorry am I, sorry am I
Heartily sorry am I
Oh Mungo, dear friend
Holy bishop of God
Hear my mournful cry
Deliver my prayer to heaven for me
For they say I must die
Sorry am I, sorry am I
Heartily sorry am I
