Meet Pastor Ron Oldenettel
Rev. Ron Oldenettel was born at Hutchinson, Kansas. He lived
in Kansas until the age of ten, when his family moved to Southern California. He
attended parochial elementary school at First Lutheran Church, Burbank,
California, from 1959 to 1961.
BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION:
Before finishing college Pastor Oldenettel entered the Navy
and served for four years at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. working in
"special intelligence." He returned to college and received his Bachelor of Arts
Degree from San Diego State University in 1977 and then attended Concordia
Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana for four years where he received a
Master of Divinity Degree in May, 1981.
CHURCHES SERVED:
Pastor Oldenettel has served as a Missionary At Large,
starting a mission congregation in the mountains east of San Diego, CA. He
served there from July 1, 1981 - March of 1985.
His second call was to Chapel of The Cross Lutheran Church,
Mission Hills, California. In April 1985. While there Pastor started a youth
group, an evangelism committee, and served on various District and Executive
Boards: Board of Directors for Lutheran High School, Burbank; The Board of
Evangelism Committee of the English District,; and Circuit Counselor for the
Zone LWML.
Pastor was called to serve Immanuel Lutheran Church and
School, Higginsville, Missouri. In February 1987. He initiated many new home
Bible study groups using the "Life Light Bible Study" series. In addition
to his ministry there as Pastor, he also served as LLL Pastoral Advisor and
Circuit Counselor for the Concordia North Circuit. In the community Pastor has
served as the Director of Emergency Management Agency and as RADEF Officer for
Lafayette County.
Presently Pastor Oldenettel is serving Zion Lutheran Church
and School in Independence, Kansas. He has served there since January 10, 1993.
"Getting believers into the Word of God is vital for their spiritual
growth!" Presently we have five groups studying the Word of God.
1) Two sections of Lifelight Bible Study, 2) A Women's group, 3) A Men's
Bible Breakfast.
Pastor Oldenettel also serves on the staff of Mercy Hospital
as a part time chaplain.
Pastor's wife, Dawn, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree
from San Diego State University in 1980 in Classics. She attended Concordia
Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska, where she received her elementary education
credential in 1982. She taught English and Religion for two years at Lutheran
High School in San Diego. Dawn has also taught Kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Higginsville, Missouri. Dawn is presently teaching the seventh and
eighth grade classes at Zion Lutheran School in Independence, Kansas, and
serving as Principal. Dawn has also taught in the English Department at
Independence Community College, Independence, Kansas.
